Took about half hour to heat and slowly knock out the pin. Didn’t want to rush and fuck it up or bend the bracket. Camp stoves work well for vw work.
Took it back to bare metal then sprayed black. Nothing exciting but progress none the less

Re: pg/sg 55
The headlights were both missing the glass, obviously smashed years ago. Both hella units with the drain holes in the right spot so I’m guessing the original ones.
The have had a hard life and the rivets were broken.
I found a guy with aluminium replacement ones. I can’t find chrome dome ones anywhere around home. They will do the job. I’m not that anal.
Reflectors are toast, so may need to rechrome them and sort out the brown coat on the back (still trying to find out what that is. Dated N47- 47th week- November of 1955 from what I can figure out.
Housings are ok, will need to repaint the inside, leave the outers.
Now onto glass.. I have 2 different hella glass lenses for buses. One with a yellow tint and one clear, the only other difference is the location of the logos. If anyone knows what’s what I’ll be happy to hear that info!
And because the drivers is hammered (literally) I was thinking of drilling a drain hole in an early bug one to swap out for the fucked one.
Another difference was the clips on each headlight. Smaller ones were off the passenger side that hadn’t been hit.

Re: pg/sg 55
Headlights are on hold until I figure out what I’m doing with the reflectors.
So started to play with taillights.
The connections were broken off and the board falling apart. So decided to have a play with repairing one.
Took off the old board.
They are straight sided with curved ends. So had a play with opening out the new board.
Fits alright. I’m not 100% on it, need to play with the hole more, but looks good for a trial.
Then I had a thought. I have some repro bubbles in the shed.
Why not take off the dual filaments and put it onto the originals for 3 brake lights instead of just the decklid one. The holes line up, it’s only a rivit and can be taken off if I don’t like it. The holes are already there and waiting...

Decided on doing it. Pretty happy with the results also.
As they were.
Removed the dual filament piece.
Installed onto the early lights.
Tested
Taillight
Brake
Even tested in the car. Noticeable deference also.

Re: pg/sg 55
Got some small updates
VW logo hella glass for the headlights..
Had some time to play on the bus and removed more of the front floor.
Also found some other missing parts that is to Rick at volksrecycle.
A wingnut. 3 fibre washers and one of the steel washers. Now they are complete.
And a wiper arm, SWF lettering with small hole to match the other original one.

Re: pg/sg 55
Finally found an exhaust for it!
After 3 days of trying to get it going, blood, swearing, blisters from trying to crank start it, trying all the tricks in the book, I switched the leads 180 and away it went!
