Re: 58 mingo mango
A small rain delay this arvo with harvest, so I headed to the shed before the wife gave 10 jobs to do around the house
Been procrastinating, debating, talking to fellow split bus guys about weather to install full pop outs or not
Finally made a call to go for it, decided if my bus had of come with a sunroof from the factory it would of probably had of come with full pop outs
So I ordered more hinges of Gordon the other day
Made up a jig to hopefully get them welded in the right spot Moved onto getting the rear hatch install also
As u might imagine when this bus got roll I don’t think any windows survived
Rear window required
The og hatch to the lady buggers to the rescue, a gift that just keeps giving Screwed it on with what screws I had
Thanks to Gordon there’s more on the way plus a bit of other stuff Can anyone confirm the plastic bit that goes between the body and the rear hatch hinge is the same as beetle body to mudguard plastic ?

That rear hatch looks awesome. Not sure if that seal is the same as beetle guard piping. All pop outs opening the same way or are you opening the front ones the other way?

Looking the goods Brad. I went all side pop outs facing rearwards and get plenty of airflow with the safaris open slightly in the rear..

Moved onto rear bumpers
My unicorn 2 tone og paint bars
Decisions to be made fix the pee shooters cut out holes or leave as is Also get these bad boys straighten out
I think I read somewhere that it is beetle front and rear hood seal that is used between these and the body of the bus, is this correct Not sure about this Ian what do u think ?
Fix the rust and lose the patina or just call it patina

Call it patina, Rusty or just plain trash, won’t really matter, you probably won’t see much of it.
Is that hole in there to let the water out ?
I would also like to know what seal you use , I have some shiny paint ones that need seals
Oh , weld those peeshooter holes up, your patina paint skills will fix that up

Welded these chunks in three years ago with the gal ground off.
Whilst I’m a massive believer in keeping things original from when you got acquired it as it’s part of the history of the bus, those holes look shit. Weld them up but maybe don’t leave as two round discs.

This is why my bus is taking so long, hard to do a resto and leave it how you found it at the same time.Cheeseboard wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 6:36 am

Re: 58 mingo mango
Could you keep the holes and disguise them by mounting something on the rear bar??
No matter what happens they can't take you out in the street and shoot you......
