new project for the new shed!

Post by pmgbus »

i have been chasing this one for about 5 yrs now, i happened to be passing by the guys house the day they pushed it out of the shed, ready to knock down and build new shed. stopped, said i was keen, left it, 5yrs later, was in the area, (riverland) and decided to stop in and see what happened to the old girl. The ute belonged to this guys dad-he bought it new in apr 55 from light motors adelaide, his dad passed away last year and the son decided that he was never going to do anything with it! so i went today to collect. found the tilt frame in the shed, still looking for the rear bumper and canvas. stopped at carlovers on the way home and gave it a birthday. found the blue paint again(never been painted)- found the crank handle, owners manual booklet etc. one safari hinge broken and the usual rust in sills , but still good to do.

i was just about to leave this guys house and he says when ive finished this one i can have a go at the other car in the shed-i went hu? over we walk to a shed that is overgrown by trees, he opens the door and ..

1959 356a silver, pretty darn tidy except flat tyres, and covered in dust.last reg 1990, he bought it in 62(he,s about 65 now) i was speechless.

anyway enough blah, here's some pics

for every 20 stories about a split somewhere, 1 or two turn out to be splits and for every 5 i have found, 4 are knackered. but i have still chased them down. would you jump in your car and drive 1200km on a story?-half the fun is the hunt anyway!

speaking of... an earthmoving guy (4wd nut)comes to my house to push around some dirt. see's the 23 and says to me he's seen one just like that on his holidays on a 4wd track near a sheep station 1200km from adelaide, so me being a nutter, jump in the car the next morning -work, blah, im sick!, drive to this place and cannot find didly squat! have spoken to this guy since and he,s going back up there this year and he,s going to gps the spot for me.-wth pics to see. i'm waiting....

PMG, why our youth need drugs to get their thrills I'll never understand. Bus hunting is much more satisfying. Only wish I could do some too. (or should I say I only wish I would make the time to do some)
