bus update

Post by no show »

thought i might do alittle update on the bus and where i am at with it right now,
spent the other day in robs machine shop making up a set of adjustable springplates, i must say they look alittle easier to make than they really are, thanks to split59 for donating his springplates for the chop and a big shout out to jeff for emailing over the drawing on how to make them up.

it was a massive headache even thinking about pulling something appart that didnt have anything wrong with it in the first place, well actually the only thing wrong was getting the rear wheel off , i attempted to pull of the rear wheels to see how the narrower standard bus rims sat compared to the 6" wide beetle rims , to do this i needed to jack the springplate down just to remove the wheel , i wasnt happy with that so i thought stuff it, i have to make them, so off they came and a visit to rob was made..

around 5 hours later i had them complete rob did alittle welding on them for me (cheers rob) ,now they are on my bus and i can raise or lower the ass in minutes if i want to slam it right down i can adjust the bolt or pull the outer plate of and turn it a spline , i always thought why would you bother with them now i jack the bus up and the inner springplate drops away untill it hits the bumpstop or the shock travel runs out making getting the rear wheel off easier than ever, now i will have set on any bus i own.
also if you dint allready know i have fitted in the narrowed beam which is sweet so i will be dropping the front end another tooth to get it down alittle more, lowering the ass further means i will have to move my rear top shock mount into another position to gain more travel as it its just about at its limit now , if i bounce on the rear bumper the shock bottoms out so thats next on the list of things to do , also lowering the rear means i need to buy a a1 sidewinder zorst to avoid hitting it and gain alittle power so this could be on hold for a couple of months, oh it also means i will need to remove the side step so i dont destroy it..

i feel now the bus is just about set up perfect , there are a few things i would like to fit like a larger motor around 2180 or so and if i could get a set of zero offset change drop spindles but these dont exsist so that wont happen,, oh and then i just need to clean up and paint the original bus rims for the rear ..

if you have a project it will be finished oneday ............ maybe
then you like me might think of selling it

my zorst is a home made stainless one , i tried to get it up and out of the way , the biggest issue with it is the u bend that comes straight of the extractor flange thats where its hits from time to time
