"Hans"... 1963 11 Window Kombi.

Post by cozza »

I finally decided to start a post on my project.

"Hans" is our 1963 11 window kombi. I found it in Mathoura N.S.W, which is just north of Echuca. I saw the bus on ebay earlier last year and got the thought that we would like to restore a kombi as a father/ son project. I did my research and a few months later the kombi was on ebay again and I decided that I wanted to buy it. I was 13 at the time & dad and i had discussed that if we wanted to restore a bus we would have to start soon because of the time that we had before i got my "L's" & the budget .As the story goes we won the auction and picked it up a week later. The name "Hans" was my grandfathers name. He very recently passed away. After the funeral I decided that I wanted to call it "Hans" because my grandfather was special to me (we share the same birthday (75 years apart) & he was always asking how the bus was coming along. I would answer the same every time. "We are getting there grandpa".

First pictures before we bought it.

Great stuff!.
You really have a perfect start to start with and that makes it so much easier and keeps you happier during the resto process.
Hans is a fine machine, looking forward to seeing it new again one day......
Have fun.

Cozza,
thanks for sharing the naming of your project bus and the opportunity for me to reflect on the passing this year, of someone special to me.The "Ratmuller" ute project came to fruition in February this year (thanks to Steve) and I have privately renamed her..Betty...in memory of my mum ,who lost a 2 year battle with cancer.Like my mum, the ute is no show pony, but a very special soul within.....Tonz
Wanted..Barny bits or 60's Supercharger other than Judson

We are finally starting to weld a few things back in. Took Hans outside to enjoy the sun and a little more surface rust removal. We will try to keep pics coming as we progress!

Nice work Cozza

I bought my 68 lowlight off my grandfather 16 years ago, and would never part with it. Love the family connection stories... BTW whats the story with the lowlight in one of the pictures? Tis looking a little shagged
