Pics of the test fit of the doors...the drivers was r/s...big crease in it, and wavy as...so after many nights filling, rubbing, it's now pretty straight.

Seems to fit too! Now needs more primer and more rubbing and should come up pretty good...but pretty happy with it...so far...given I've never done any body stuff before...just takes me a lot longer than the pro's I guess....learning as I go.

Collected the frames today too, more work there, but should come up okay...think I'm keeping 3M is business the amount of papers I've bought...lol...

Check out the top notch restoration environment...one day I'm gonna get me a garage with walls...

wwwwooooohoooo....the panel is off to the painters next week. Using the same guy that Mr Bling used....a bit of work still needed on the front doors, but figure I'll let them take care of that. The moral of the story....by getting my hands dusty, and taking lots of advice from people (good, bad and wierd)...I've reckon I've saved myself a good 5k off the price...and I know every inch of the old gurl...

At the end of the day, 2pac will give me the easiest long term maintenance, though I really wanted to 'paint' it. Lack of garage and kids running around made timing a bit off to do it all, so bit the bullet for the last lap.

So should take 3-4 weeks...then back for assembly...which the Chief will sort for me, so by Xmas it will be rego'd, and with the school hols, I'll have time to fix the interior fit out...so looks like a happy ending.

Just hope the jewls show up in the next few weeks and I can source all the toys needed to finish it up.

Given up counting the $$$$ and time gone into it...but looking forward to finally driving it, its only taken me 15 years of dreaming to get this far...so figure a pro-top coat will ensure a large grin.

Thanks to all so far for the encouragement and advice, else I'd still be dreamin'.

Yeah, did a lot of work on that. More rolling hills in that dinged up door than Montanna. I did a test fit and it seemed to fit okay, but I didn't have rubbers in so hard to tell for sure.

Feel like a bit of a wuss, but with the kids around and a long list of things to do/build around the house - from der kommundant - I was only getting half an hour here and there, impossible to get a whole day clear to do a lot of painting...so rather than drag the chain, took the 'shop' option.

Got tilt trayed up there today...so hopefully it will come back as nice as yours...but still don't trust painters. Lots of money and no 'undo' button. Will try and keep my eye on them - did you got for visits? - did they keep in touch, ask questions??? - now I'm worried.....grrrr....but then I am always convinced disaster is around the bend....need to move to Byron.

yeah go visit them they dont mind, at least the price is good compared to the other quotes out there , at the end of the day if you want a perfect job of it you wont get away with spending 4 times that, then you will still might not be happy with it, if you look close at mine its far from perfect but hey its good enough , dont worry about it should be sweet

dean how are the coconut fibres on the seat base and back rest, also you will need to get some dakron , i found the dakron hard to find the trimmers around here dont use it , so go to either clark rubber (are expensive) or you can go down to lincraft near super cheap auto in penrith , go in there and buy some underlay for beds it comes in rolls like you would roll up a sleeping bag , one roll is the size of a single bed for $15 id get 2 just incase , the clark rubber stuff is thicker but both are the same or very similar to dakron. this stuff will help keep the seat cover flat and smooth so brad tells me

cool, the matting is average to crap...Brad sez he's gonna send me some...thanks for the tip - Clark Rubber is ded expensive all round ay... thanks...if worst case...will get some supercrap seat covers for the purpose of rego...Brad seems to be a busy busser these days...

Don't worry Deano, you're next.... as soon as we've got Splittychic up and running...which should be within a week.
Re your seat pads, if they're f%@&*d, prob best to replace them.
I can send you some coconut fibre to fill in any holes, but if they're knackered that may not help.

Visited the paint shop today...dropped off a few bits I'd either forgotten or didn't have at the time....had to laff, after weeks of encouraging my steering wheel to come off, they wanted to stick it back on to move it about....pfffffuff.

They'd already done a 'few bits'....which was good to hear, didn't ask 'em too but a good sign I thought....

Went back tonight to drop of a few more bits that Kimm at Indian had found for me...and they'd done a shed load more bits...so it is now looking fantastic, a real rat, but they'd spent the time to attend to a few details that the more experienced eye can see /// I do like dealing with older people /// they do some how seem to take pride in their work...

Anyway, the old gal might get (must get pet name - I thought Ava after Hitlers mole)...anyway...it might get high filled tommorrow and maybe even painted byt the end of the week...

Anyone got a pic of a panel with bumpers the same colour as the body - not white, black or grey - want to photochop it to see what that might look like...

And Andy's got my bling stuff....all happening....bank account status : Critical.

The panel is now in 2 pac high fill outside. Major step forward. Hoping to see the first coat of paint towards the end of the week...anyway here's a decent shot of the front work....the front's been smoothed and dropped by about an inch or so, so the front bar will look a bit lower...because it seemed like a good idea at the time, and to match the height of the dropped sills....so now its in yet another colour....

also a shot of the roof - there was a 600mm square hole in there before that was neither in the centre or squared up...

and the driver's door - that is my fave bit...as it was my first effort at filling and preparing...(thanks to Darren for his help)...

Next post, hopefully with paint...

who wants to come and put it back together for me then???
