Thanks, mate, I think the colour is good too and a lot of other people have been seriously impressed on how it came out.
It's no secret it was a bit of a gamble when I decided on it.
The missus would've preferred a white/aqua 2-tone paint job but I wanted something different.
And like you I also like radars but they're wrong for this Kombi.
It'll be black Empi 5-spokes eventually but I suspect the money may dry up before I can get those.
The aim now is to put her on the road and have her finished so she'll probably sport black 15" Merc steelies for a little while, unless things cost less than I suspect and they usually don't. :(
So if anyone wants to buy me a Chrissy present get me some Black Empi 5-spokes. :wink:

Hey Kombi1976 - Hoves VW Wheel store open for business. Have Black EMPI 5 spoke with Dunlop 195/60/15's and bolts/nuts and also have a set of old 356 style rims with 205/70/15s, whitewalls. Pics attached.

Thanks for the thought, Hoves, but mine is running the 5x112mm stud pattern and your rims are the old 5x205mm pattern.
I can't put adapters on either as I'm running a standard width beam.

Well, that's as maybe, but when I get the Empis for mine I'll get 'em in 5x112mm so there's no mucking around with adapters.
And it also doesn't get around the fact that I probably won't have the dosh for them for the mo.
As I'm dragging the family around in it the interior trim and seats are a little more important than fancy wheels. ;)

Here are a few pics from yestersdays visit to Mullerville.
As you can see the roofrack looks quite cool on the Panel.
There are however problems.
I want to put it at the front, as that was the original design for it and put the 3/4 length rack I have at the back.
But the legs on the this rack are set in position, making them too wide for the front of the bus.
It's also not high enough to clear the roof so both it AND the 3/4 length rack will have to get the legs modified so they will rise high enough to clear the roof because they were designed for bays that have flatter roofs.
But in spite of that I think these pics still give a good idea of how cool they'll look when I fit them both on.

Tuesday arvo was spent at KombiRescue as myself and the missus "helped" Steve and Luke.
More accurately, the missus stayed well back and ran an important errand while I got under the their feet in my enthusiasm!

But it was gratifying to see Kitty come together.
I even got to clean off some parts and then paint them (the pedal assembly) before Steve fitted them.
The only rogue part for the day was a Woodruff key that had gone AWOL and could not be replaced.
So I'm beginning to get really excited now and can see her taking shape.
The missus was VERY excited and our youngest, Remy (3 mnths old), seemed to like the atmosphere despite ratchet guns, drills, grinders and welders and eventually fell asleep as the racket went on.

More updates.....
Basically the entire front beam and suspension is in as well as the pedal assembly, brake booster, etc.
The wiring has all gone in together with the fuel tank, sender, fuel gauge, new steering wheel, headlights, indicators, licence plate lamp & tail lights with red lenses. All bulbs have been replaced and headlights are now halogen units with early model lenses. It has a new battery, original MPH speedo with replacement bulbs and windscreen glass with new seals.

In the rear end the brakes have been installed with piston kits and the entire braking system of the car is bled, the gearbox is in with the correct nose cone as is the starter motor, axles and CVs are fitted as are a pair of Koni adjustable shocks.
You can also see the Baywindow fuel tank in this pic which has been modified to fit into the split.
Sorry this and the last pic are a bit blurry but Steve very kindly took them with his phone as I've not been able to get up to see the Panel for a few weeks.

Here in the last pic is the engine stripped of tinware ready for the fitting of the external oil cooler.
It also needs to be drilled and tapped for an oil temp gauge before it is rebuilt with pointless ignition and twin Kadrons.

Next on the list are door seals, door tops, a shift kit to reduce throw on the gearstick, exhaust system and heavy heater boxes, a washer bottle and electric pump, wipers and wiper motor, new pressure plate and thrust bearing, fitting the tacho, voltmeter, oil pressure and oil temp gauges, erm, can't remember what else.
So not much left then...... :| :D
