No I've got a set of BRMs to go on it ... I don't think it will really matter what colour you paint it in the end, you'll have to go through the multi-primer and high fill stage, so you will really need to loose all the original paint, even if you go the same colour. I opted for this as I figured that it wasn't too dark to reflect too many imperfections that might show up.

Even though it looked good after the first two primer coats, it still needed some more work, and then as you can see on the high fill coat, there was one more that needed doing.

But your ute is in way better shape than my panel was, as the bottom 6 inches all round had to be rebuilt, plus the drivers foor and roof - which was dinged up everywhere.

I've used the same guy that Darren used for paint ... not the most hi-tech paint shop, but I reckon very good value for money ... and is doing a good job, though not in the least 'interested' in Volkswagens as such.

I dunno really, I've never had a car painted before....nor done any prep work before. I also haven't seen a panel van in a long time done to this level.

The non-door side looks fantastic in the booth, and its definately come up better than I had expected. The colour is very eye candy, and the black rims will really set it off I think. Given the amount of repairs this bus has had, with basically the lower 6" replaced, I guess people will go 'oooowwww'.

Like you though mate, I now know every square mm of it, so I'm dead picky and there are a few things that I would like to maybe have done better if I'd had the money...like not having flat section in the floor...I don't think that I could have done a better job for what I've done, and for the purpose I want it for...people will only be looking for a few minutes, so it's more than impressive on that score so far. Reserve judgement till the rest is finished this week.

I'm happy with the cab, that was a total sHHt fight anway, and nothing was straight or not dinged, and that's come up great. Theres a bit of dust in a few spots (but being dead picky), but they reckon that that will cut out. I guess that there was bound to be a bit of dust in the corners, only so much the air blower will shift....other people wouldn't notice though.

So now what??? - the whole thing now needs everything putting back together and haven't got a clue where to start....I'll manage getting the BRMs on...the motor, cvs, brakes etc., are at Indian. The state of the electicals ... unknown, assume rs...and there are boxes of bling in the bedroom. I really need to get it running before Santa comes.....

Could do with your roof templates if you still got 'em...

Anyone work for beer and Pizza????

mate, more than my lifes worth... it's already got an Indian adjustable beam in there...not that you can tell with those dopy wheels on it. Man I gotta fix that up this week.

It will get carted back to Kimms at the end of the week for the refit. I know that this narrowing in all the rage. But I've still got a good 6k still to blow on it at this stage. With a wife on Mat leave, still looking for a gig at the beginning of next year...trying real hard to keep it real.

Im not that adventurous really, I know that Indian will, as ever, make me a happy busser. Rego is the next point of call, then the audio/video and electrics needed to power the mutha of a coffee machine. Hanging out to make the first brew. If I had more time, then I'd have a crack at finishing it, but really need to get it sorted before the end of the school holidays...and the only way thats gonna happen is to get the pro's in....

Jeez I thought an adjustable beam and bolt in IRS would be sufficient.

Maybe on the NEXT project ... come on hand over a DD panel someone...

dean looks fab ...try and hold down the excitment...only needs to be finished tomorrow!....wow this is one of the last 67 panels built in australia as the air intake vents tell the story...may be a 68 build....ckd german kit with the aussie lower block off vents ...a rare bus...world wide.....we built splits in clayton factory up to oct 68...ea21[bay] was available as a full import until the factory reset the jigs...bugs were the first to be changed followed by the busses.......just a little aussie folklore for the os guys cheers steve

Cool, figured it looked a bit strange up there. I'll get the chassis number and you can do more sluth work. If you can't have an early one, then might as well have a late one. It's defo comming up better than I thought...but unlike Darren, it won't be blinged...very simple outside...trying to go the wow inside. Soon it won't matter where we go for a coffee run, will all be on tap. A few more bits showed up this week....can't wait...but with hindsight...I should have build a Double Door.....ah well next time ay.
