Very interested in this "raptor". Would you recommend it for wheel wells? Can you get it in other colours (vw primer grey for example). How does it spray (gun tip?)
Novel way of painting the inside. That is very thorough!
Cheers

answers to the previous questions, yes the outer roof was removed because the damage was extensive looked like a tree had fallen on it so the only way to repair was to cut the roof skin off shrink and beat into shape then reflange and weld back on.the other is that i was from the UK and have been into VWs for 20 years and have built many over the years
i am now an adopted Aussie(i have the piece of paper) so like most DSkers i don't wont any going overseas

the raptor was designed as a spray in tub liner for utes all it needs is a sound base to go on, it comes in either black or clear which can be tinted with any colour if you look at my surf bus thread you can see that i have done my bus in light grey, you are also welcome to come down to the shop and have a look how the raptor looks,it is not a cheap product but should last and wear a lot better than anti stone chip

So many questions, so little time
Surfbus,
Your work is getting me enthused again, might have to drag up the 67SC and start doing stuff.
How do you prepare the metal under spot welds? Do you paint it then just weld through? Do you do spots with a mig and no holes just spot and reprepare and paint over the top?
Back in the olden days (30 years ago when I gave up beating) before migs we used to just drill the top sheet and braze instead of spots. How did you get the turret off, just drill the spots and unfold the rear lap? Mine has been used as a trampoline by kids looking at it. Is that a "Boofhead" Australian model with the double skin?

Here are some pics before we started
Floor section by fuel tank
bulkhead panel
Rear posts after the corners were removed
Bulkhead panel removed you can see how far the rust spreads
Drivers side note the missing b post flange, someone has been here before
repaired with a piece of steel and a good layer of bog

The roof had a new flange welded all the way around then spot welded back on
then lead loaded over the join
the roof was cut off about inch up from where it welds then a new edge was welded on,then it can be sat down into the gutters and spot welded back,We use a spot welder where we can otherwise we drill and mig plug.
Copper weldthrough primmer is used on the bare steel prior to welding

Thanks for that Surfbus. Bin a while since I've done any lead wiping, nice to use compared to bog. I'll have to have a look at my old bomb and see if taking the inside cover off would be simpler for me, then I could just weld it back in round the inside (after repairing the turret) hopefully not effecting the turret too much. Just thinking out loud, haven't looked at it in detail for a while.
You blokes make up the treasure chest floor and the ute floor yourselves? If you sell them how much per panel? I'll be needing both.
