Rawdy,

Great little bus there, love the time warp interior.

Just wondering if you get a lot of junk mail or letters from the postie stuffed in those rear vents

I have spent some time down at BusnBug getting Granny ready for her big exam (RWC).

With the mechanical skills of a wet Twistie my job has been to remove the old camper interior. It was the first time in years I had my hands dirty and loved every moment of it.

I have not washed her out yet (Granny is a bit filthy) but the condition of the metal and paint under most of the interior is just amazing. The floor right behind the driver's seat looks like it just rolled off the factory (apart from the material glue and dust).

Today I went back down and loaded up the big red ute with the interior. Bloody amazing it all fitted in the Granny at one point.

Not much has changed in the plans. Budget is keeping the work at a bare minimum for RWC.

So far...
RobK has done the steering box (awesome stuff), Rossco has done the front end and brakes and fitted a 1600 engine supplied by Brad and Jono, Brucey has done the body work. Testament to the good shape the bus was in is the cost of the bodywork came to $700! Even I can afford that.

While cleaning her out I discovered, tucked away under the camper seat, the two semaphores! Frikkin yay! They looked in bloody good nick too.

Special thanks to Brad and Jono for putting up with me. For such a pauper I can be a demanding customer at times (and it 'aint over yet lads).

Huge thanks to Stealthy for the battery. Fitted it today mate and she is a ripper.

There are others to thank soon too. Once I get photos of their contribution I'll do just that.

Last bits to do before RWC are;
- Headlights
- Electrics (refurb semaphores and general cleanup of wires)
- New tyres (standard size tyres with wide whitewalls)
- Paint the rims
- New windscreens
- New left wiper motor thingy (I dunno ask Jono)
- New steering wheel (white - long term plan for a white int)
- Front seat (recover/sprung whatever it needs)

Post RWC focus
- Alternator
- Look into air filter (currently oil thingy - is that best?)
- 12v Starter

Now.. for some pics.

Actually the interior was good from afar but far from good. A lot of it was water affected and built to be light not durable.

She will be decked out as a two hour camper. That is it will live most of the time as a microbus (Thanks Shaven for the seats) and we will line up a bolt in rock n roll bed and cupboard so when we want to go away we can convert her inside a couple of hours.

Best of both worlds.

I haven't received any mail yet as she hsa never spent the night at my place yet. Soon I hope.

Hi there

Nice bus very similar to mine (59 dove blue a few layers down)except yours is missing the rust!
Were the add on indicators you took off PMG ones? I have three very similar but need a fourth Do you still have them? My email is vw.kombi@yahoo.co.nz

Nah the blinkers were trailer ones. Gone in the bin already.

Semaphores ot be re-fitted as well as bullets mounted to brackets bolting onto the bumper mounts so no new holes.

Is it just a simple camper that you've got in mind? Be interested to see what sort of cupboards you put in - I'm guessing that you were meaning a 'minimalist style'...

It will normally be a microbus. We plan on a fast bolt in rock n roll bed and one cupboard that we can easily bolt in - hopefully to the far side middle seat mounts - but we are yet to muck around with ideas for that.

That's all down the track a bit. Just getting her on the road for now.
