Is that soda blasting or done with sand and some care?

WOW

I am suprised at the amount of bog you found, when I repainted this ute in 1992 I mostly just skuffed back the existing paint and repainted over it, It is amazing at what lurks below!!, then again it must have been there for a while, It had been sitting for 12 years before I bought it.

Here is a photo of what it was like when I picked it up

Thanks for the pic Dave. Do you have any more of the old girl from when you bought it. Saw Al today at VW Action Day and its a good solid ute. Should turn out a ripper.

Gaz, it is sandblasted and I have been extremely happy with his work. I am yet to find one little corner or nook that he has missed....also he takes extreme care not to cause any warpage, and also takes a lot of time to blow sand out of the chassis rails etc etc - hardly any comes out when it is flipped on the rotisserie. Far better outcome than I have had in the past.

Because all these splits inevitably have rust hiding somewhere, sodablasting's benefits can be limited.....therefore if I had a car that had NO RUST (not likely in a vw!), I'd go soda....but otherwise I'll stick with sand.

Love that pull out frame/draw from the treasure chest. Great alternate to climbing in to get stuff out or using a stick with a hook.

I'm not intending to take over this thread from Mick....just throwing a few updates in every now and again for dsk'ers interest!

Steve has been spending a lot of time in this position in the last week or two (lucky for Steve, Bruce hasn't decided to drop by in a time of vulnerability)

Even though Mick's KTM seems to be sold, we've set up the draw for bike riding (aluminium folding ramps and fuel containers are boxed in)....spare wheel will be bolted down and a drop in shallow "box" over the top, small box at front right corner for straps etc, then the bigger compartment at front left for helmets/gear/beers etc.

PS autocraft rear corner and rear arch seem to be still in transit after a long wait - underside will be in paint as soon as these bits arrive and are installed.

Cheers mate, if you no longer ride offroad I'm sure it can be converted to hold eskys and a bbq or something just as practical!
