Cheers Ted. I can't wait to crack open those safaris for the first time! I don't think you will wipe the smile off my face :D

And thanks again to Al for helping to complete the dream. 8)

Ok, time to update.
Al purchaced the paint today! :D :D
Here are a couple of pics I took last week. Al was kind enough to spray up a test panel to see what the colours looked like together.
The bottom colour is a VW colour and the white is Base White. I wanted a clean old school look, so I am stoked with this combo.
Not long now 8)

Glad to hear that you're nearing the end of the KIP Fiasco Leon.

I could not think of a better outcome than Al resto'ing your split.

Cheers

The rear cargo door is off at the blasters, so work started today on the front cargo door since the outer skin was received

Image

The dent on the swage line will be pulled out tomorrow

Image

Below the swage line was dented and rusty so it was easier to replace the entire section rather than just the bottom 6 inches

Image

The autocraft outer skin was trimmed to fit and trial fitted in place. Welding will start tomorrow! Gerson inner lower section will also go in after trial fitting on the bus

After getting the rear cargo door back from the blasters the doors were trial fitted and aligned...the front cargo door outer skin is just cleco'd in place in this pic

Image
Al found previously that the pressed lip (that beds against the seal on rear cargo door) is a poor match to the original and is very hard to shape accurately, so he decided to keep the original lip and cut and section the skin to the original

Image

The close up explains the process a little better - more welding but a better result at the end of the day.
