Hi All, sorry it has been a while since the last upload. My panel beater skipped to Perth, so it took a while to find someone to take on the job. Anyway, a local panel shop offered the opportunity to one of their more experienced beaters who has a love of Kombi's, and he has been ploughing into in, a weekend here, and a weekend their and doing a bloody marvelous job.

I reckon it must be somewhere between 250 and 300 hours by now, but she is almost ready for paint as you can see.

Brad from Bus N Bug has agreed to fly up and fit it out for me, hopefully by the end of Feb, so she should be on the road mid March with any luck - almost 12 months from the original purchase, and somewhere between $35,000 and $45,000 later (i've stopped counting - I'm not sure my wife has though)/ It was originally going to be a Sunday drive car - but costs have blown out, so bugger poop

it is going to be my everyday drive.

I am going to start a new topic soon, and describe my experiences, the pros and cons of the resto project so others can get a glimpse of what I have experienced, and know who and where to turn to for help.

spent most of the day today on the engine.

She's been stripped, bored out to accept bigger barrels and to seat them nice and snug, and new case case savers added where needed.

The chap I orirginally bought the bus from is a VW genius, and has a shed full of gear - literally, I reckon he could work up a dozen engines. He's a genuinely lovely chap, and as part of the deal, he said he's build me an engine, and I could help - which means stand by his side and pay bloody close attention.

Anyway, we have put in a re ground crank and it has a 110 cam going back in.

got it put back together today - working on the rest tomorrow(barrels, pistons, heads etc.)

Also have the trial fittings of the seats tomorrow, so will take some piccies and post.

thanks for your heart felt ouches, bummers and the like - yeah kind of sux - not sure about insurance - Brad from BusnBug is looking into it - it's a real shame; he has done such a cool job - even the packing looked bomb proof, but alas...

Anyway, spent this morning with Carl, the panel beater - who by the way is blody terrific at what he does, a real perfectionist and a top notch bloke. We had to install the rear and midle seats prior to paint, and as new floor sections were added, I had to get some new floor mounts made up specifically (not cheap at $24 each), but that was as good as it got on short notice.

After that, back to working on the engine. Had to steal some parts from an old 1600 block. Anyone know where I can get some new tinware from, would like it to look sweat, and to be honest, not sure exactly what parts fit a 1835 twin, to enable it to slot into a splittie.
