Mate, I was expecting a lot worse from your previous comments. That thing is not all bad concidering it age  I recon you can do without a replacement roof, have a look through Jacks resto thread. Al has done a similar job on his roof.

Peace 8)

Hey mate, good to see another one hopefully on the road to recovery....I didn't think I'd see one much rustier than Jack's being restored, but good to see :)

Being that both sides of the roof would need the same repair, plus the dents which are hard to get straight (Ian's (shark) has taken almost three full days just on the rear half to straighten/shrink etc), I would say a donor roof would be the go if you can find one.

Although I (nor Jack) would want to add up the hours its taken to repair all the areas you are about to, I'd estimate somewhere between 300 and 400 hours plus lots of bucks in repair panels. To do it right takes a LOT of time. Best of luck mate, I think you better invest in a better grinder as its looks like it will be getting a lot of use ;)

Mostly the response has been "Gee, bit of rust in that!"
We only live around the corner from my son's school.
When my missus dropped him off this morning some of the mums asked "Nothing's happened to your nice brown Kombi, has it?" while the more knowing ones said "So your husband has a new project, eh?"
But it's turned a LOT of heads, arguably more than the '67 Panel, probably because it looks so horrible.
But they haven't been looks of horror; mainly curiosity and interest.......especially when I had it hitched to the power pole with the snatch strap to pull it off the trailer!!
Cheers & God Bless

The '55 is FINALLY in the backyard.
Here are some pics of the process that will have to do until the vid is made up.
First, here's the drum I had to cut and section as per Steve's advice.
He was right......take you time and use plenty of cutting wheels.

And the move.
Surprising the all of the tyres took air in them and stayed up ok.
The front passenger tyre which is the roughest, chunkiest, cracked up retread in the world took 28psi despite the fact it had been so flat and buckled under
Especially after the bus fell off the jack when I was sectioning the drum - long story......

Now all I need to do is decide where to start...... :|

Hey Andy,

Nice one! Where to start? That's the question...hehe.

Another 55, like Tony said it's bizare how many early RHD 55 are turning up in Oz....Maybe we were the testing grounds!

Also, I can hook you up with whatever you need panel wise from Gerson.
We've got a crate due in soon full of panels...

Cheers...Elton
