Ive also got a 17mm nut welded to a large philips head screwdriver shaft , easy to turn the spanner and put pressure on it. or I drill the screw heads out a bit with a 13mm then weld a hightensile bolt to the screw, and undo.
as said before impact driver can help. and liberal soaking of inox or wd

Well, had a bit of a crack at the front bumper bolts this evening but they just keep turning.
Even though they originally have the square cut in the bumper to stop them turning the bolts have been pushed in so once they're loose they won't continue to unscrew.
I reckon I'll have to get my grinder and use the cutting wheel to cut a notch in each head.
That way I can stick a big screw driver in them and get them out that way.
If anyone is gasping in horror at such an idea and has a better suggestion let me know.
I did manage to get one out but the rest are just spinning and not getting any looser.
Cheers & God Bless

drill a hole on one side of the nut if you can to brake the seal then lube a plenty, then pull the bumper away from mount and try to undo. If you dont want to save the bolt hold inside with socket /spanner and drill head of bolt off.

heat

Post by nicko »

Try a bit of heat to the nut and then grip the round bolt head with some pliers and undo. Try not to stuff them or lose anything as it is expensive to get the correct replacements.

My issue is this.
I can't get at the bolts with drill or a torch.
I guess I can undo the bumper mounts on the chassis and take it off that way and THEN deal with these bolts.
My biggest problem so far is that about half of my spanners and other tools are in the '67........200km away at Kombi Rescue. :x
But this weekend the '67 comes home so I'll have all those back.
As for keeping the old bolts, we'll wait and see. :|
Cheers & God Bless

I found it horrifying. :(
This is more my speed:

Although this SC is too pretty.
The other issue is the tyres it's running.
They're BFGoodrich Mud Terrain KM2s, chunky as hell and cooler than a rat with a gold tooth.
But a 205 is as big as will safely fit under the doglegs with standard suspension height.
These are 215/75R15s and run a real risk of mashing up the dog legs in a bad spot.
Hopefully I'll be able to find something in a 205/70R15 or 205/75R15 with "mad chunks" as these are effectively the same as the 6.40x15 (the OG Split bias ply) or 6.70x15 which is close enough and gives you a bit more legs.
Cheers & God Bless
