Here you are, Glasurit, as requested, the motor:
What isn't visible is the external oil cooler and filter, the breather box and of course all the internals.
Happy to answer any questions about specs etc.
Looking at it it deserves some nicely powdercoated tinware to clean it up.
Not sure what colour though.
Colour matching it to the car would be good but hard.
Wish I could powder coat the bumpers the same colour.

Bit of an update.
The motor has done quite a few miles since it went in and I've been constantly monitoring it to make sure it's all ok........(no more driving with that nasty green light on!! ).
The last week was particularly a test for it.
On Thursday it dragged a whole lot of gear about for a school concert in town.
Then on Friday I shuttled kids from my school back and forth across town to a music workshop by a guy from ANU.
I had as many as 8 people in the car (including myself) on a couple of occasions and there were always 3 people across the front.
Let's say it was "cosy"!
The feedback from the kids was very favourable, especially from 2 of the 3 exchange students.
The Austrian girl in my class said "Your car is so cool!" and the Swedish girl currently here (yes, she's blonde, blue eyed and slender) said it was really fun - turns out her family has a VW but "not like this one" she said with a chuckle.
The German boy however was more interested in getting "snug" with the Australian girls in the back and they were really hating that - yeah right!
But that wasn't really even the beginning of the miles covered.
I got home from work on Friday, packed the car full of amps, guitars, clothes and kids and we headed off in convoy with my in-laws (who drive a Volvo SUV - yrrch!! ) to Bathurst via Cowra.
It's a longer trip than the Crookwell/Trunkey road but tons safer in terms of roos.
The weather was terrible - windy and heavy rain at times - but we did the 300km in around 3 1/2 hours because of reduced speed.
Once our kids were in bed we left them with my inlaws and headed to Orange to rehearse with friends there, returning from Orange at about 1am.
The next day we headed back to Orange again spending a few hours there rehearsing ready for the gig at Bathurst RSL that night playing country music for a Vietnam Vets Memorial dinner - a completely success.
Then on Sunday we wandered around Bathurst looking at the memorials and gorgeous old buildings before getting at top meal at one of the local pub bistros.
DSK should really do a cruise out to Bathurst one weekend as a row of Splits parked in front of the old courthouse would look amazing and there are plenty of other photo opportunities.
We could even line up a cruise around Mt Panorama!
We parted company with my in-laws after lunch and took the shorter Oberon road back to Goulburn via Taralga.
It's a lovely drive and we were back home in just over 2 hours.
So, you may ask, how did the new motor take it?
Superbly.
The terrain is mostly undulating and the roads have a lot of sweeping bends, perfect for a well setup car, and if you had a WRX, Evo or Lotus you could have some serious fun.
For the most part the Kombi powered through and took the hills and rises in its stride.
I found myself slowing on the tighter turns, particularly after some hairy moments of understeer, but then we had a full car and at the end of the day it's a Kombi, even though it's running Balljoint and IRS.
It would have been really hair raising in a swing-axle/redux-hub bus to say the least.
There's a nasty twisty descent and climb at the Abercrombie River but the 1776cc hauled serious arse coming up the other side and it did most of the climb in 3rd.
So the car is running beautifully.
Big cudos to Steve Muller for that.
I worked we're doing about 7.5km/litre on the highway or 21mpg in the old measure.
All up it was about 740kms for the weekend.
I did see a cool old metallic blue-green Low-Light DC between on the road between Bathurst and Oberon and we got a wave and returned it.
Anyone here own it?
BTW, sorry about the lack of pics.
Bryn, our 5 yr old filled up card on the digital camera with silly shots and I didn't have time to erase them so I left it at home.......DOH!!!

Well, this is a sort of sign off for this car.
From the beginning the Merc 15" steel rims were a stop gap and I've played with tons of different ideas to achieve the final look.
Most of them involved black rims, either Empi 5s or BRMs or some other style.
But Dutchy clued me into a set of 4 silver Empi 5 Spokes that were for sale on another forum and after consulting the minister for war and finance I rang the vendor and the matter was settled.
Dutchy and I both figured, hey, they could always be painted black if I wanted.
So, after some mucking about, the rims finally arrived at my folks place on Thursday ready for me to have them fitted before the trip to Old Bar.
I meant to debut them there and I had some good comments from those I saw on the way up.
But we all know how Old Bar ended up so here's some pics and a vid of the Panel shod in it's new shoes.
IMO the silver shows off the clean lines of the Panel and there's enough chrome trim like the lights and doorhandles to pull them off.

You can probably see that the rear rubber is significantly skinnier than on the Merc rims.
The Mercs have an offset of ET31 and the Empis are ET12 so I lost 19mm of space inside the guards and the old 225/60s wouldn't fit.
Now it runs 195/65s which turned out to be a silver lining as the 225/60s had enough tread to be legal but not much more.
