Congrats on the bus Del, and its your colour too. Be nice to see it next to the buses/trains at some point.

Just do what you can to get it on the road quickly so you can enjoy it. Doesn't need to be shiny, a driving bus beats a shiny one stuck in the garage every day.

Cheers

warb may be able to help you with this... chat with it

@ bulliboy - yes I was thinking of using a cream vinyl cleaner to see how it will come up, it's a shame the headliner was torn out, the remains of it are an amazing lined texture, will be looking to try and track a duplicate down somewhere.

@ headstone - thanks mate I am looking forward to the journey :)

@ matara - Thanks Steve, wise words indeed & totaly agree with you. Rather be on the road cruising in Ruby as a rat, rather than having her sit in the shed gathering dust.. "No-body puts my Ruby in a corner!" And Ruby will look awesome beside some of my other vintage buses & definantly wikered photographed beside my red rattler, will get onto that when time permits :)

@Shaven - thanks for the tip,may have a chat to warb at some time. My partner is actualy comming up with a series of Bomber Girls that can be used on the side of cars, buses or whatever :)

@ splitbus - I agree, Ruby is absolutely DELiciously DELectable :)

@ Tonz Magonz - agreed, the wings go! My partner, Craig will paint this onto Ruby freehand, & then I have some painting techniques that I will use over the top of it to give it that funky aged, vintage, distressed look :)

Currently at the moment I am working out a resto plan. Will give Ruby a clean on the inside so that I can see what lurks beneath. Then will work towards getting her on the road as soon as possbile and breaking it down into the following order as if it were similar to the anatomy & physiology systems of the human body -

Skeletal system - frame, pillars, floor, cross members, jacking points, roof etc -needs a solid foundation to work on.

Cardiovascular System - The heart of Ruby - motor/engine

Nervous System - Electricals

Muscular System - Brakes, Running Gear, Suspension, Transmission,Steering, wheels, tyres etc

Respiratory System - Cooling & Exhaust Systems

Digestive System - Fuel Systems etc

Lympahatic -System - Lubrication & general maitenance

Integumentary System - duco, sealing, water proofing, window seals, rust reduction & protection, windows, outer & inner pannel work etc

Endocrine System - General maintenance for continued efficiency of all systems..

This is just a quick break down off the top of my head, there's prolly heaps more to consider. I then have to, for each system, estimate a budget $$$ & manual hours required to be able to complete each one to then move onto the next one..
I must also take into consideration, the knowledge & skills that I have, then factor into the resto project, the systems & skills needed to complete them & any limitations of my knowledge in regards to executing them etc This will overall factor into my budget, which I will estimate at the moment being about 15k, if I get under that, it's a bonus! So slow start to begin, a lot of reading first before I commence etc

But I am a firm believer that my car is the barometer of my soul, so I will be my own mechanic! :)

Wish me luck guy's, gonna need it & no doubt heaps of advice from you good folks -Cheers - Del :)

@ Thanks 067DUB, I am hoping to honour & find the balance of Ruby's spirit/psyche & that of the reflection of my own personality & the congruencey between the two & the overall phsyical, practical, non-metaphysical functionability of the everday applications that this implies :) Good Kombi Karma + Physical Reliability = Happy Ruby, Happy Del :)

@ Shaven - Thanks for your vote of confidence in me? However there is one thing to theorise about a resto & another to undetake & manifest in the physical realm. We shall see if I have the grit/skills to do so, & the proof will be seen once I begin & photograph my journey :)

@ D-Train - David Helfgott, both the man of my dreams & nightmares! To live under the pressure from parents as a young child to be aspire to his level of musical compentency almost sent me to the psych ward! :) But to have but an ounce in my little finger of that kind of musical genius that David has in both his hands would be beyond my realm of earthly understanding! There is always a flip side to that kind of genius level, & for David, sadly he struggled to return from it & was taken advantage of by a medieval mental health care system throughout the late 70's & early 80's!
I will be just happy enough if I can restore my splitty.. :)

P.s D-Train if you have been taught the skills & methods of living a detached life away from reality, without the use of chemical substances, could I impose upon you to teach me??? I have 4 teenagers & a ex-husband I would really love to tune out from :P

As I said, The Ruby Resto will be a long term project as I learn the skills neded to restore her - Therefore I was able to find a local fellow who is willing to teach me how to Weld. This is a transcript of his first lesson to me, describing the difference between Arc & Oxy welding - please exucse the crudeness -

Teacher -"gonna be crude, but the idea is the same. arc welding is like a bloke wanking himself and oxy welding is like a girl wanking herself. that usually teaches most the basic principle. one is back and forth, and one is round and round focusing on the centre hotspot.
sorry, but a mental pic usually explains it."

Del - Ahh thanks mate for the simple & visual explanation, that one will definantly stick!

I think to say the least, this resto is going to be one colourful ride!
