I am still looking for a splitty for myself. While I continue the search my mate Chris is progressing nicely with his van. He has rebuilt the entire front end including a lowing kit and is now in the process of rebuilding the rear end. He has reset the rear torsion bars to lower the rear end and has just fitted nice newly powercoated wheels & new tyres. Its going to be a great looking "rat" when its finished. He is still searching for a pic of an original Nobbys nuts van so he can repaint the logos.

I haven't updated for a while.
1. I still haven't found a suitable splitty. I will keep looking.
2. I have finished my 71 Morris Mini K rat Van.
3. Chris has finished his Splitty and is now being driven every day.

A question for the Knowledgeable ones here. Chris is going to fit a Porsche 6 cylinder Air-cooled engine & 5 speed gearbox to his Splitty. He will also fit a IRS rear end. What type of Porsche engine & box does he have to buy and where would be a good place to purchase a good running engine from?

Cheers
DW.

to fit that 6 cylinder porsche motor and box properly youll have to move the whole rear torsion bar forward to get the wheels to line up in the arches ,massive job but its been done before

The best bang for his buck engine wise is probably the 3 litre engine from the 911SC series. They are known for being pretty bullet proof and are not as complex as the later 3.2's which have motronic engine management and all the electronic bits. 915 box is the one you want as well.

I am a qualified mechanic/engine reconditioner and I have my Roadworthy Testers licence so if anyone needs a honest kind to VW RWC in vic let me know.
Hi David,
I`m fairly new here too. I just found your post by searching for RWC as looking for an honest VW friendly local RWC - I`m just over the highway in Brighton. Whereabouts are you in Bentleigh?
cheers Gareth
