Are you having to replace the gutter section as well? I'm going to have to do that above my cargo doors too, just wondering if you have to brace it at all?

Cheers, Daniel.

Yep Daniel, gutter section is replaced already - braced across the B-pillars but didn't brace anywhere else. Have just been checking and rechecking alignment with respect to gutter, cargo doors etc etc.

joshroom, Jack will put some more pics up soon I'm sure.

Heres them pics :)

Finally the rusty outer roof section was cut out!
Image

The strengthener and gutter section also had to be cut out
Image

After lots of trial fitting and aligning the gutter section was tacked in place

Things are coming together slowly but surely

Thanks for the info, I have a long piece of gutter like that to fix too.

Really enjoying these build threads too, makes me want to get back out in the garage!

Daniel.

As Al couldn't access an inner strengthener section in time (and didn't have time for a sheet metal shop to have one bent up), he used a small profile box section to provide the necessary rigidity for the gutter/roof section
Image

After welding both sides were seam sealed in hope rust doesn't re-occur any time in the future!
Image

After lots of trial fitting and trimming the roof section was tacked in place

Finally the long butt weld for the roof section is complete and has been ground back
Image

Apart from the dents and buckles that were in the roof before I even started, no warping occurred which I was happy about
Image

The rest of the roof will be sanded back to bare metal now then conditioned before beating/filler work commences

Here are some more piccys

Last bit of rust in the roof (autocraft section wasn't quite long enough to reach this bit)
Image

Cut out, new section welded in and ground smooth
Image

Got started on the left cab door rust today
Image

After blasting it was a little worse than I expected :)
Image

The small rust section towards the rear of the door was tackled first
Image

Both the outside and inside rust were repaired (forgot pic of inside!)

I finally got around to going down on the weekend to Al's to do some sanding :)

Sanded the tank back, it was then epoxy primed and painted in beige grey
Image

Wheels received the same treatment with base/clear applied after primer
Image

The rusty upper cargo door catch plate had to be resurrected before being trial fitted in place
Image

The bend on the catch plate was cut off and a new metal section with appropriate bend was spot welded to the original
Image

The engine access hatch work started today
Image

A little more work and the inside will be ready for primer
