What paint were you using? Epoxy should be DTM and keep the rust out.

First you should use a rust neutralizer wash, let it dry, then put the epoxy, but there's a million different ways people use to try and keep the rust off.

I live in a very dry area so, it's just the wash then epoxy.

haha haha i wont say anything if the paint falls of when the penatrol wears out under the epoxy, but knowing you its probs just gloss enamel so it dosnt matter anyway.....

motor should be ready monday so get cracking this weekend man

I used the a rust converter first

Coming along nicely Joe. Have you thought of using POR15? I used it on the pan of my oval. It is just amazing stuff.

what motor? it shouldnt do, i wouldnt think, ive done it this way before on shit a few years ago and its still on there good and proper, even hard to scratch off, heck, it took about 2 weeks to get it off my arms... got my compressor yesterday and done some sand blasting this morning, so so sooooo much easier then that god forsaken wire brush!! so i say, thanks joe, for letting us know about the little sand blaster!

Evening Joe,
As you have experienced, there are many point of view/products relating to rust treatment, & finishing off after you have busted your backside cleaning & removing the heavy rust.

Well, l have used "Rust Tech" rust converter with etch primer then prime & colour topcoat.

This process is good if you are preparing internal sections for welding & adding new sections over the top.

Saw this product at the Auto Trade show the other week ~ KBS Coating, Chassis Kit, This kit has enough for a reasonable size vehicle. Best thing is it's a good price about $90 per kit &in different colours. This is good to finish off your work.

It's like the POR-15 product. Attached is a image of the website.

Spoke to a couple off tradies at the show & they swore by it !!!

ha ha thats a great idea, but the family have already named her Sasha after the fist dog we ever had. She was so ugly but to us the cutest dog ever.

This thread seems to have become more than just what you are doing. Inspiration has seeped into others and more resto threads are happening on here. Well done. The vidoes are great too. I liked the super hero theme intro - so with the welding may I suggest a little power cosmic from the ultimate super hero to join those metal bits back together? Consider the silver surfer cartoon intro.
