I've been doing some thinking about the '55 recently, especially after I saw pics and footage of the Kempe Barndoor Panel getting about - you know, the one they dug out of the ground in Sweden.
Eventually the '55 will get a Subie but my first focus will be to get it going in standard configuration.
I may not even bother getting much of the house paint off it.
I'll blue slip and register it as is, with of course stuff like a 12v conversion, a new wiring loom and other little bits it really needs just to get on the road.
I'll fit a simple aircooled motor of some description, maybe even a 1600sp or even a 36hp, and keep the redux boxes for the mo.
Steve Muller is kindly gathering together some 2nd hand bits of old buses that'll get it running without having to blow stacks on bits and pieces.
I'll also be chucking on whatever necessary bits I need to get it blue slipped rather than going for the "final look" approach.
That means it'll run a pair of Rossi headlights I have for the moment until I can score some OG lights.
Once I get tired of tooling about in it as is I'll pull it off the road when it's registered and go hard at putting a Subie motor in it.
But for the moment I need to get the '67 going as it cooked it's motor a few weeks back and is at Kombi Rescue.
Then I can go at the '55.
I'm actually beginning to think about the '55 a LOT, even dream about it sometimes.
That's a bit of a sign; I was like this just before we got started on the '67 resto.
