Awesome KCW restored '59 ute is now mine!
I am so stoked to have scored this '59 single cab. I have gone through the build thread at the KCW forum over and over, zoomed in on the photos, and been amazed at the quality and detail JJ's team go to in putting this SC back together. Besides the mad metal fabricating skills, every single part, every detail, is gone over, cleaned up, repaired, etc. from the speedo to the reserve fuel petcock.
The ute has been restored true to its origins in detail - like the L345 grey it originally came out of the factory with, crows feet wheels, fuse box with original paper labels..... But with some unusual touches like the 30's American cyclops light.
For those of you without the time or patience to scroll through 46 pages on the thread (although the build doesn't really start until the bottom of page 16), I will post some of the photos I like best over the coming days. The build was only completed end of April 2014 and the owner decided to sell because he is putting money into another VW project - his loss is totally my gain, especially when you factor in what a detailed resto like this would cost in Australia.
Anyway, enough jabber....... Here's some photos.
Original front floor was in amazing condition as was the ute tray bed
Long panel is pretty straight.
Anyway, check out the thread http://www.kustomcoachwerks.com/forums/ ... sc&start=0
And now some bling shots.....
That's the teaser. Now some good photos.....

The SC has no bog or filler. It was panel beaten, pushed & pulled. These guys have mad skills. They use old metal working tools. And so there are imperfections - the intention was never a 'show quality' resto but rather a beautifully restored working truck, daily driver. Everything works from heater boxes to the reserve fuel petcock. I like it
I like it a lot.

Hopefully arriving in 6 weeks if all goes well. I moved pretty quickly on this and I know the drill from importing my 15 window 2 years ago, so hopefully no headaches.
Waiting is of course always the worst part of it....

The long panel was already pretty straight....
All the joins and seams were sealed before paint. The PO lives in the cold, wet mid north of the US and wanted the best protection against those conditions. The SC was dry to start and has only done 40 km's since resto and then stored in a garage.... until the truck comes soon to bring it to me here in Oz.

This is wicked
I do note the absence of semaphores. Do you know the month age etc of the ute v USA v aus
My ute has semaphores at low belt line.
Just curious
Love the tire selection
Great to see a tidy ute

Hey Stevo69,
I'm not sure of the exact month and year when Aussie kombis lost semaphores and got the nipples up front - John and others on here will probably know. But I do know that USA kombis got the nipple blinkers many years earlier than here or Europe because of a change in USA transport rules requiring proper up front indicators.
Hey Tom, don't worry mate, you'll get a ride in the ute before most people.....

Love a lifted splitty! Anyway all I know is after 56 the semaphore went down in Aus as anyone with a canopy fitted blocked the vision from behind.....
