Westfalia Trailer

Post by Griffin »

so I thought a few might like to see this little Westfalia trailer I got a couple of months back.
Its a 1953 Funeral trailer (maybe for teh budget funeral?) and as usual I bought sight unseen and yes worse than I was led to believe.
These have a basic steel chassis, transverse leaf spring set up and weigh around 280kg. They have a timber floor and frame and metal skin.
Have just spent the last few weeks cutting off the bottom 100mm and replacing the timber (with oak), will then redo the metal.
Plan is to use it on our trips to all teh shows to carry parts and panels rather than hauling them in or on top of our splitty

bit more progress, oak rear step trial fitted and rear pillars secured and nice and square. trial fit of the rear doors - what a bastard of a job but getting close though of course like a bus I'll have to replace the bottom 6 inches.
Currently has a beetle number plate light will try and find the correct one

sorry about the pics being on their side...

still chipping away, used a mates folder and shrinker to make new lower corners and bottoms of doors. Then realised the mudguards were stuffed too so theyre next for a bit of welding
Got some 20mm alloy homeycomb panel off Bernie to replace the old timber plank floor which should strengthen it a bit and half the weight.
