That would be great,
ok, because the motor is an 06/07 model it has a drive by throttle. Also all the abs attached etc. Apparently with taking the abs off it sends an error signal to the computer and it won't run.

And with the drive by the distance from the motor to the sensor is a short distance in the Subaru but on the Kombi it's a couple of metres due to the engine in the rear.

So they have told me to get sn 04 or earlier manifold and harness without the drive by and it won't be a problem.

I'm no good at electrics at all so hope that makes sense to you.

Other option is a motek computer but again it's $$$.

Just a thought, can you set up a mechanical linkage / cable to a TPS (throttle position sensor) that would suit that model engine/car and have the TPS mounted on or close to the engine so it is close enough to not disturb the sensor wire length, I know this is taking the technology backward but might be a cheaper fix whilst retaining the original subaru set up as is?

with the ABS is there some way that you can hook in a loop in the ABS plug or connect the ABS sensors to complete the curcuit and make the ecu think that is all there?

Do you have any more info you can PM me like the engine no. and what the chassis no range and model the engine came out of was so I can track down some more info for you.

Cheers George

I have mentioned the cable idea to them as a mate said the same, then they said something about it not working with the cam? And abs system.

They said they would give it a go but would not guarentee it working, they had only done one before and at this stage it's not going.

I will get that info to you when I go to the car next.

All I know is it's a EJ25 out of a 2006 Subaru forester.

Appreciate your help.

I will see if I can track down an electrical schematic and some info for extending the throttle harness and bypassing the ABS to trick the ecm in to thinking it is all there so it will fire

as soon as you get me some more info on the eng and chassis no that would be tops

hey ZP, just a thought on your pedal dilema, if the drive by wire system used by subaru is anything like the holden/GM setup (which it probably is) it will be made up of two accelerator pedal position sensors working in opposite of each other, this is done for safety and emississions etc.. each a.p.p is a three wire circuit so you may have a total of six wires that run directly from the pedal to the e.c.u. then a separate bunch of wires running from the e.c.u to control the servo motor(s) in the throttle body. anyway thats shit you dont really need to know but the point of my story is that they are just wires and they can extended, shortened, soldered etc.. I know this because I made up test pedal with a 3 metre cord on it, I used 7 wire trailer cable obviously had 1 wire leftover.I use it when diagnosing problems VE commodores. anyway I reckon if your wrecker will give you the correct accelerator pedal and connector with a few inches of the harness you can have a go at connecting it up match up the wires if it doesn't work you have only wasted a few bucks on trailer cable (although the plastic pedal mounted a split will look iffy you can worry bout that later) even just mount the pedal in the engine bay for testing while you sort out the other a.b.s gremlins an shit. hope that helps and maybe saves you some loot . Your project is cool man keep at it wish I was closer to lend a hand but stick with gfresh i reckon he's made of the right stuff!

P.S sorry if someone already suggested this, just tell me to shut my word hole.

Thanks a heap for your info mate. The more the suggestions the better.

I am also going to look at a motek computer to use. All comes down to $ in the end.

Good little lesson to remember for anyone thinking of doing this conversion.

Day 1 of 10.

Not alot to report, spent a fair bit of time on the rear brakes, pulled them apart and cleaned them up. Ripped the bearings out going to replace the lot.

Nice new pads, cylinders etc. I am missing the handbrake rods for between the pads. I will be looking into that.

We also hooked up the new handbrake cables, moving a few of the pipes around to make room for the radiator. Sorting that out this week.

Had a play with the gear selector also becuase part of it was rust had to make up a pipe to suit.

Back into it tomorrow

Looking forward to the progress pics..

What year 2.5 motor would you use, to avoid the probs you're having with throttle/electronics etc..?

Cheers Tony

2004 or earlier. Still not sure what I am going to do about the electrics.

Plenty to keep my mind busy with the rest at the moment.
