Not much progress to report, the shed is still occupied by a trailer tent i am finishing off so i am just collecting bits at the moment. Managed to get some Safari's and the Deluxe trim so if nothing else happens i can at least sit in my dream bus and pretend to drive it !
So far i have also sourced a middle seat, rear seat ( both bay window items), IRS Gearbox, Disc Brake Callipers and a 1600tp engine.
In a couple of weeks i will get it in the shed and strip it down to a rolling shell and then trailer it up to Caboulture to a mob that Soda blasts the body and also mixes in some medium as well to remove the rust, hopefully this will be a bit gentler than just getting it sandblasted, then we can start to weld it !
I did try to remove some of the yellow with oven cleaner so i could get to the Dove Blue .....
but all it did was make it shiny....
So the lot is coming off and a Microbus deluxe look is going on. Here's a few random photos of inside....
Cracked steering wheel
Knackered Speedo
Heater tube - is this supposed to move / swivel ?
Wooden roof support beam as the original metal one behind it is broken ..... unless this is a Barny wooden beam
I am not sure what year VW stopped covering up roof holes with bean cans - but this one is stamped Austalia 32
Lastly an early birthday present from my wife to inspire me.....
I have a few holes drilled in the roof where it had front and back roof racks fitted, i would be interested if anyone has either for sale ?
A big thank you to Ian68 for helping me with my endless questions and locating things for me, and an advance thank you to Flipflop for helping me in the engine department !
Cheers.

Well .... still fiddling about with the caravan, so i am taking the opportunity to A collect parts and B collect knowledge .....
All i have done to the kombi is remove the parcel shelf and remove the Speedo, its dated 11/56 so this ties in nicely with the Jan 57 build date. I have bought some late bay A arms and spring plates which i am sending to Indian Automative as part ex on their IRS adaptor kit & some adjustable spring plates, i have also bought the rear hubs etc of a late bay so i can get the IRS in and make the bus wheelable while i work on it. I pick up my bug IRS gearbox at Valla and have picked up a few bits and pieces like doorlocks and interior lights.
Todays road trip saw me pick up a late bay petrol tank that i will match up to a split filler neck i purchased which means i can keep my original petrol tank intact and on the shelf, i also bought a few repair panels in readiness for when i get it soda blasted....
I am on the hunt for some type of roll over / rottisserie to either hire or buy in Brisbane (or at Valla) and also need to try and find an undamaged roof support beam and the middle part of the drivers floor.
I have decided to go with the red 9 design front suspension set up with front discs 1600tp engine, IRS rear probably wide 5 original rims and all slightly lowered.
My budget for everything is $20k as that's what i got for selling my Scooters and so far i am at $10,886. I still have to pay for the rebuilt engine , weld and paint it and then all the new rubbers and interior !
A friend has volunteered to do the cutting and tack weld the new panels in and i have to fabricate the small patch repairs and do the stitch welding of the panels. i can also see me ending up having to spray it as well !
Onwards and upwards .........

You'll do it as well mate !!
I have a set of brand new in the bag Wolfsburg West door seals ( both sides )
Yours at cost, will bring to Valla if you want em mate.
Think about your fuel gauge and sender before you go putting in the tank...
I used the VDO Royale from CIP and forgot about the sender, assuming the bay tank sender would work...nope.
You have to make sure you match the Ohms ( ? ) from sender to gauge...you don't want to have to remove the engine etc to check once it's installed !!
Doing well though mate, doing well.

Hi Ian, yep i'll grab the door seals off you for sure, so please take them to Valla and i'll catch up with you there. Re: the sender, glad you mentioned that, i thought i would just have to calibrate it (by bending the float arm to correspond with the needle) ... Anyone happen to know the Ohms of a late bay fuel sender ? i thought they just went 6v or 12v
Cheers,
Mark.
