Cut out the front floors, they were stuffed as you could see in earlier shots...

Took the steering box out it was shattered. The whole car was full of dirt, hit it with the pressure hose to try and get it clean..

Great pics. Love the one with grinder being offered up to the old girl. Bit like a dentist experience. Now this won't hurt

Day 2 -

Spent the day out again today and we got into it again. Just uploading pics now and will post.

There is alot more rust in this ole boy than we expected. Getting some prices on the panels I need and believe me there is a few.

Spent alot of time cutting, we are working on everthing underneath, cut the outriggers, belly pans, parts of the chasis etc.

We keep finding more the further we go.

I'm sure you'll be good at welding by the end of this one mate!! Lots of work ahead but credit to you for getting stuck in!

Wow, looks like that Irish panel on SSVC.
At least it never gets really cold where you are and you aren't welding panels in wearing thermals!

Cheers, Just getting prices for all the panels needed at the moment and we will continue working our way through getting it all ready.

We are pretty keen on putting a kick ass motor in when all this cutting and welding is done.

My mate has mentioned doing a WRX conversion. Does anyone know how hard/expensive this is to do?

I think FrakenCab might be the one to ask about this.
He's putting an ej20t into his DC right at the moment and already has a Type 3 with this motor.
My brother has also built a beach buggy on a Beetle pan which runs an ej25 (2.5litre Outback motor) and you could ask him for tips if you like.
I think it's a good idea.
That Split has already suffered a heap so fabricating a stronger chassis for it will only be a good thing.
It's pretty much the same route I'd go although I think I might go for the Subaru H6 motor.
Cheers & God Bless
