What year is it?
Hi,
Recently bought a bus which I was told was a 58 and i am wanting to categorically confirm that it is.
I read some where to look in behind the seat for a plate which would have a serial number which would help provide this information the only issue there is the plate in behind the seat is not there.
The only numbers I could find we're in the engine bay and they are:
MKAK2012. &. 174606
Anyone have the answers or could direct me in the right direction.
Cheers Nick

It's a 56, no doubt, I know that from the chassis number you put up. Excuse my arrogance, years, months, dates etc. is what I get off on......dabs wrote: IN2VWS - it's 56?....no doubt?...how do you know that?...excuse my ignorance.....being a 56 will this be a problem for me as i look to source the gear i am going to need?
To be more specific, your Kombi left the factory in Germany, in early April 1956 as a CKD kit. It then travelled by sea to the Martin & King plant in Clayton, Victoria, where it was assembled and painted approx 3-4 months later.
Yours was the 2012th Kombi assembled at the Martin & King plant.
The MKAK2012 number tells us all of this. Here is some more info if you are interested: http://www.in2vws.com/index.php?option= ... &Itemid=79
Love is like a fart,
If you have to force it, it's probably shit.

When I was looking at it he said he bought it ten years previously off a German falla on the Central Coast, had it stripped back but left it outside for ten years unfortunately. Going by the original paint on the roof it looked like it was a good bus before they stripped it. That's all I know about it. Good luck with your restoration.
