Re: 1956 Bus - Blue Nomad
Time to go exploring
This is a really good method for removing top layers of shitty old paint, Thanks Ozjeff and Frankencab for the tip. Although it takes 30 times longer on a cold afternoon with no sun. Sometimes I get impatient and just want to get the job done, You need heat to help that's forsure.
Ass end complete, Top layers came off with ease although the grey primer in between top blue and original paint was stubborn.
There has also been a minor repair done at some stage
The side panels have had multiple paint jobs including another greener variant of dove blue, although, 85% of the OG paint was all underneath. The door tops inc cargo door tops came up really well
And the front, Its had work done on it in the past. I have found the lower 4 inches slapped with bog and has crusty metal.
So the lower 6 or so will be replaced, red oxide, and maybe blown in
I have taken back the paint on most panels now, except the roof - not looking forward to that part and still have the short side left to do. After that is complete I will give it a 2000 rub wet and sort out any other imperfections before i give it a buff and eventually ankor wax. Cheers, Darren

Love it.
Its a great feeling finding that OG paint, really pleased to see another OG paint bus being saved.
Wear a mask with that oven cleaner though, the fumes are bad ..real bad.
If you get that shit on your skin, wash it well straight away, I have the burns to prove how quick it works..nasty stuff.
Have a word with Klaus about the key, he's a man of many many talents....

if you want a bit of extra chemical protection get yourself some Junglebrolly, that stuff stops acid. Used it in the mines on caustic cement and underground water. Go to youtube and have a look. I use it in my shed

Just watched a YouTube vid on that junglebrolly stuff, seems like a great product and we could really use that in my industry but never knew about it. Cool, made the mistake of spraying without the mask afew times and it's pretty brutal on the lungs!
Rego.. Could have happened by now, but at my rate its looking like Nats 2015

Re: 1956 Bus - Blue Nomad
Time for some updates
All the scrubbing back to OG paint is done now including door jams and roof
Once complete I applied a good coating of Ankor wax to the roof, as it would be sitting outside for afew more months before I could put it in the garage.
Because it had to sit outside for awhile i decided to get all the fixed glass back in with brand new rubbers.
Here is the rear still with dealership sticker
Before the fronts could go in I needed to fix the rust in the windscreen chanel, Portable welder, no gas, outside, worst welds ever produced but job got done
I decided to carefully keep the repair within the chanel to save the OG paint at eye level
After much prep 2014 we made the move up into the garage where the rust work could continue
I think it took 6 months or more to collect Funky green panels, Seem to be in very high demand with minimal stock so I advise
to start collecting ASAP . They are a great quality pre fab panel tho.
I will put up more updates shortly. The amount of rust that was found once I started to treat one area, Suprising. At times it seems like 4 steps backwards to take 1 step forward. Cheers, Darren.

Re: 1956 Bus - Blue Nomad
Love the direction this bus is taking and the results.
Seems more people are leaning towards preservations than restorations these days. Smart choice as they look better and you save some coin on expensive paint jobs.
Keep it coming.
