My wife is due to have our third child in October.
Our current vehicle is too small now and after looking at several other alternatives we decided to put Kitty (as we named her) on the road as our family car.
I spoke to a number of people but in the end Steve Muller has been landed with the job and he dropped into my place this morning on the way to getting another car from Yass.
The funniest thing about this whole project has been people's comments when they see the panel.
When I picked it up in 2000 it was pretty straight then although there were some rusty bits.
Two grand of rust work later and there is little if nothing left.
Most of the original paint was on it when I bought it and although it was an unfinished project in a million pieces the bits were there so it's lain dormant ready for me to have the money.
The usual comment: "You've got a cracker of a splitty here."
I really think people expect to see a rust heap when they turn up.
Mind you, I guess that's what they usually do see after a phone call out of the blue.
When I told Steve how much she cost me initially he told me I'd pay the same for a good rear hatch these days.
She's already been converted to IRS and has a ball joint beam with Bay discs and drums front and rear.
I have a good rebuilt dual port 1600 from a '70 Bay that only did a few miles before the PO pulled out it when he realised the bus had terminal rust
There's also a L-Bug box.
I was given some 66 Kombi doors that need repairs where they've rusted out along the bottom but are fine otherwise.
So now it's all systems go.
I'm seriously considering safaris and although the missus was less than enthusiastic they improve airflow heaps which will be important in the panel, even with window doors.
Plus they look way cool.
And the colour.....Wehrmacht Desert Sand.
If anyone has a Rock'n'Roll bed or some Merc steel rims they're willing to part with let me know.
